Privacy notice

This privacy notice explains what information I collect from you, what I do with it, and who it might be shared with. It applies to information collected on this website as well as my related social media channels and any personal information you provide to me by phone, SMS, email, in letters and other correspondence, and in person.

I update this information from time to time. The last time I reviewed it was on 18 October 2024. Please do return and review it regularly.

For the purpose of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is Sarah Cowan.

What information do you collect from me?

I collect information that you voluntarily provide to me during the course of using my website, or communicating with me. This includes information such as your name and contact details.

I also collect some information automatically when you use my social media, eg how you interacted with the content I share. I don’t use cookies on my web site. For more information about this, read my Cookie Statement.

Why do you collect this information?

I use your personal data to enable me to provide my services to you. This includes things like responding to your enquiries or communicating with you during a project or collaboration.

Your personal data will often form an integral part of a design project. For example, when you have commissioned me to design something which features personal information about you such as your email address, telephone number, or photograph.

Will you share my personal data with anyone else?

In general, no. There are two exceptions to this, however:

I may disclose your personal information to third parties where this is necessary to complete work for you. For example, I may supply your name, address and telephone number to a printer who is producing and delivering print work to you on my behalf.

I may also share your personal data with third parties if I sell any or all of my business, or if I am legally required to disclose your information.

How and where is my information stored?

Your personal information will be stored on my computer hard drive and on an external backup drive. It may also be stored in hard copy where it forms part of my portfolio of work.

By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. I will take all reasonable steps to make sure that your data is treated securely and in agreement with this privacy notice.

The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure and therefore I cannot guarantee the security of data sent to me electronically and transmission of such data is therefore entirely at your own risk.

How long will you keep my data?

I will only keep your data for as long as necessary to enable me to provide my services to you.

If you contact me to enquire about a project which does not go ahead, for whatever reason, your personal information will be deleted after six months. If you would like your data to be deleted sooner than this, please contact me.

Any financial data relating to transactions will be stored for a minimum of seven years, as required for tax purposes.

How can I see what information you have about me?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you the right to access the information that I hold about you. This is known as a subject access request.
